The Lung Flute (LF; Medical Acoustics, Buffalo, New York) is an acoustic device invented in 2002 for promoting sputum expectoration. It is small, light and consists only of a mouthpiece with an internal reed attached to a 36.8-cm-long rectangular hardened plastic tube (Figure 1). LF requires no other device or external power source for operation.
